Construction on the new stairs connecting the Springwater Trail and the Tacoma Street/Johnson Creek MAX station continues. Some concrete structures have been formed as new forms are set into place. There is no estimated date when construction will be completed.
Construction started on September 17, 2018. The stairs were originally part of the station design in 2015, but then were removed for budget reasons. The stairs will save about 0.2-mile of walking distance for pedestrians coming from the Ardenwald neighborhood from the east.
Springwater Trail is open but is narrow at the construction site. Pedestrians accessing Springwater Trail from Tacoma St. MAX station will need to use the sidewalk and access path along SE McLoughlin Blvd.
