Mark your calendars. The old Sellwood Bridge will be closed to traffic, beginning this Thursday, February 25th at 7 PM. From 7:30 to 8:30 PM, the public is invited to bring flashlights, electric candles or phone lights and walk across the old bridge forĀ a final farewell ceremony marking the old bridge’s 90 years spanning the Willamette. Participants are asked to gather at SE Grand and Spokane no earlier than 7 PM.
Though the bridge will be closed to traffic until Tuesday, March 1st, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the new bridge on Saturday, February 27th 12-4 PM. Parking is very limited in the neighborhood, so visitors are encouraged to walk or bike to the party, which will feature a parade, food carts, entertainment and “a few surprises.”
