The next phase of the Harrison Street reconstruction project gets underway this week when contractors begin grinding away the existing roadway and delays can be expected as traffic will be detoured around the work area.
Grinding between 32nd and 42nd Avenues will begin on Wed., Aug. 15, 2012, and treating of the base and paving will follow soon thereafter. Once this section is done, contractors will jump to night work between Highway 224 and 32nd Avenue on Harrison St.
During the work east of 32nd Avenue, traffic will be detoured to both King Road and Monroe Street. When the night work begins and shifts to the west of 32nd Avenue (including the intersection), traffic will be detoured to Oak Street.
The grinding and base treatment will create dust but the contractor will be watering the site to keep the dust down. Also, compaction of the base will include using a vibratory roller and near-by homes will feel vibration. Precautions may be needed to prevent items from falling.
Final completion is expected near Sept. 14, 2012.
In 2006 City Council enacted the Street Surface Maintenance Program (SSMP) to collect funding to help keep the City’s major arterials in decent condition. This being one of the City’s arterials, the Harrison Street Project was selected as an SSMP project. This stretch of Harrison will be completely reconstructed as part of the SSMP.
