Q: Wait—what’s going on?
A: The Ardenwald – Johnson Creek Neighborhood Association (AJCNA) is holding a contest to design a flag for the Ardenwald-JC neighborhood!
Q: Why? Since when do neighborhoods have flags?
A: They generally don’t, but the AJC neighborhood—too easily seen as a sort of in-between “gray area” that isn’t quite Milwaukie and isn’t quite Portland—is the special place where we live as Ardenwalders. An AJC flag would be simply a symbol of here, and a flag we could all fly (regardless of our individual differences and politics) to inspire us to be better neighbors to each other, better patrons of our local businesses, and better stewards of this land.
Q: I’m not much of an artist. Can I still take part?
A: That’s the beauty of flag design: Some of the best designs are also the simplest. No need for advanced art skills!
Q: Okay, suppose I might want to take part. What should I do?
A: Two things:
- Subscribe to the AJCNA email list! You’ll not only be kept informed of news and events from the AJCNA, but also get details on the flag contest (whose specifics are still being finalized).
- Start planning your design! There are many schools of thought on what makes a good flag design, but here’s a great starting point. Note to Parents/Guardians: This video contains some very mild “colorful language,” so use your discretion with any nearby little ones.
Details to come on the contest parameters and timelines.
