What is the NDA Friday Update? This update is meant to provide timely information one time per week to community leaders like you who can then share this information with fellow board members and neighbors. The updates are also a good place to share information with other NDA leaders, so please feel free to submit information to include on future Friday Updates.

  1. Join NCPRD’s Advisory Board – Deadline for applications is Aug. 31

The North Clackamas Parks & Recreation District (NCPRD) Advisory Board (DAB) has five positions to be filled at this time from incorporated and unincorporated areas east and west of I-205 that are within NCPRD boundaries. The DAB makes recommendations to the District’s governing board, the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners, on the planning, development and operation of parks, trails, facilities and programs. Board members play an important role in representing residents’ voices in NCPRD decisions and policies. 

Meetings

The DAB is scheduled to meet the second Wednesday of every month at 5 p.m., and also to meet with Board of County Commissioners twice each year.

  • Styrofoam Collection Site Has Reopened – Every Wed. and Thu. – 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Milwaukie Environmental Stewards Group, in partnership with Exceed Enterprises, is reopening their styrofoam collection site in Milwaukie for Milwaukie residents.

Bring your clean, hard, white, foam. It will break when you bend it! No colored or coated foam (i.e. hot tub covers).

When: Every Wed. and Thu. (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)

Where: Exceed Enterprises parking lot (Enter the driveway by the front entrance.), 5285 SE Mallard Way

Who: Milwaukie Residents Only (No businesses please due to limited storage capacity.)

  • Call for Sculptors – Selected sculptures will be on display from Oct. 2020 through Sep. 2022.

The latest Call for Sculptors is now open! Sculptures selected in this round will be on display from October 2020 through September 2022.

Currently, the city’s sculpture garden features six sculptures with a seventh sculpture in Dogwood Park.

  • It’s Not Too Late to Complete Your 2020 Census – You can complete it online, by phone, or by mail

If you haven’t completed your 2020 Census there is still time to do so. You can complete your questionnaire online, by phone, or by mail. The 2020 Census will determine congressional representation, inform hundreds of billions in federal funding every year, and provide data that will impact Milwaukie for the next decade.

You can respond to the census by visiting www.my2020census.gov, by calling 844-330-2020, or by completing and mailing back the paper questionnaire that was mailed to you.

  • Johnson Creek Annual Cleanup Seeks Volunteers – Pre-registration Required to Keep Teams Small and Safe – Sat.., Aug. 22 (9 a.m. – 1 p.m.)

Register to volunteer! 

Join the Johnson Creek Watershed Council (JCWC) for their annual creek clean up! This is part of the JCWC’s ongoing effort to create a healthier and safer Johnson Creek. Each year people come together to remove approximately five tons of garbage, and celebrate all the weird trash they find and vote for silly (and very important) awards. Be part of the change with them! This year it will be a little different with a focus on small groups and social distancing, but they will still clean up the creek and make a change together. One big change this year is that volunteers will not get into the water so keep that in mind as you prepare to volunteer. 

Special Jobs

The JCWC has a lot of jobs that are not trash pick-up.  If you are interested in photography, set up/break down, helping transport trash from the banks to the dumpsters they need your help. You can sign up for these jobs here. 

Schedule

  • Saturday, August 22 (9 a.m. – 1 p.m.)
  • 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. meet for a small group (1-10 people) trash pick-up at your site
  • 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. contingent on all safety considerations, meet at Mill Park in Milwaukie for burritos and weird trash contest

Free t-shirts will be provided to all volunteers featuring a local artist!
