Note: If you would like to provide comment please be sure to read the section at the link about how to do so.

About the Comprehensive Plan Update:

Following nearly two years of work and community input, the Milwaukie Planning Commission recommended approval of the updated Comprehensive Plan policy document at their March 10 public hearing. Oral testimony was taken at both the January 14 and January 28 meetings, before the testimony portion of the hearing was closed and commissioners began their discussion and deliberation. Planning Commission continued their deliberation at their February 11 and February 25 meetings, before making their recommendation on March 10.

The public now has another opportunity to provide feedback on the plan in advance of the City Council’s public hearing. The Council has heard comment and testimony during public hearings on June 2 and June 9. They will continue to receive both written and verbal comments at their next Council hearing on June 16. Public comments will be accepted at any time prior to the June 16 meeting, as well as during the public testimony portion of the June 16 hearing. However, if you would like a staff response to your comments as part of the Council’s meeting packet, please submit comments by June 11

  • Milwaukie Poetry Series – Poems in lieu of Claudia Savage’s reading

The Milwaukie Poetry Series Thirteenth Season!

Poems in lieu of Claudia Savage’s Reading

On Wednesday, June 10, we were due to host our June poetry reading by Claudia Savage. But as you know all gatherings and events have had to be canceled in this difficult and uncertain time of the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic. All our in-person Milwaukie Poetry Series events have been canceled until further notice. Claudia’s reading will be rescheduled and there will be an invitation closer to the event.

Since we cannot hold the reading in person, Claudia has sent some poems, which are attached. She would have read all of these at the reading. Click here to read her poems and the broadside intended for the reading. They will also be  posted on Ledding Library of Milwaukie Facebook Page at, https://www.facebook.com/LeddingLibrary/.

Claudia F. Saleeby Savage’s work appears in print, onstage, and in museums and explores multidisciplinary collaboration and diaspora. She is a Black Earth Institute fellow for 2018-2021 and part of the music-poetry performance duo Thick in the Throat, Honey. Raised in Queens, NY and the south, she received her M.A. in literature and women’s studies in Colorado and teaches throughout the country. Her poems, essays, and interviews have been published, most recently, in Water-Stone Review, Denver Quarterly, Columbia, and BOMB. Her interview series, “Witness the Hour: Conversations with Arab-American Poets Across the Diaspora” was a 2017-2019 feature in Anomaly. This past year she performed as part of a panel on immigration and refugees at The University of Oregon. She is a Pushcart and Best New Poets nominee and the author of Bruising ContinentsThe Last One Eaten: A Maligned Vegetable’s History, and the collaboration The Hour of Anjali. Her collaboration, reductions, about motherhood and ephemerality, with visual artist Jacklyn Brickman, is forthcoming in Chicago and Detroit in 2020. She’s garnered awards from Jentel, Ucross, The Atlantic Center for the Arts, and Portland’s Regional Arts and Culture Council. Her poetics are influenced by rabid reading, Alice Coltrane, and long hikes in drippy forests. She teaches and lives with her husband and daughter in Portland, OR.  www.claudiafsavage.com

Please be safe and well and take care of yourselves. We hope you enjoy these poems.
